Spartan South Midlands Premier League Game
Harefield United vs Kingsbury London Tigers
After the performances of the last 2 games this was a jaded affair with both sides giving a lack lustre display. The battle was in the midfield with neither side dominating and few chances being made. Neither keeper had much to do as both defences contained the forwards. Sean Sonner and Craig Totton were as busy as usual playing wide, trying to get an opening but to little affect. The few chances fell to Sonner and Danny Jordan but nothing clear cut.
The second half saw a slightly better game with the Hares pushing for the points but getting bogged down. The best chance of the half fell to Kye Davies of Kingsbury when a clear header was put over the bar. However, the Hares continued to test the Kingsbury defence and keeper with Siki Kambila bring off a great save to deny Paul Haynes. The deadlock was broken on the 85th when Jordan was pulled down in the area and a penalty was given.
Following the usual ructions and complaints from Kingsbury Sonner duly slotted to give the Hares all three point. Another good defensive display with the third clean sheet in a row and the best defensive record in the league. next stop Edgware on Tuesday.

Thursday 8th March saw the first team playing Biggleswade United away in the league and coming away with all 3 points with a great display of football and some great goals. The first half needed patience with the first goal coming late in the half when Sean Sonner brought out a good save from the Biggleswade keeper only to see Luke Willis fire in the rebound. The second half had the Hared in control and it was Craig Totton who hot a 25 yarder and it was 2 -0, duly followed by Danny Jordan making it 3-0.

Spartan South Midlands Premier League Game
Royston Town vs Harefield United
On a bumpy pitch football was difficult and it took the Hares a while to settle down. Royston competed well during the first half but few chances going their way. The deadlock was broken after Tom Lewis had to go off after 15 minutes and sub Michelas Livesey came on to put the Hares in front with a glancing header from a Sean Sonner throw-in on 20 minutes. After this the game was played in the midfield with neither defences being stretched. Only Danny Jordan going close with a header just over the bar.
The second half saw a better game with the Hares driving forward and Royston starting to get into the game with Lee Bates forcing a good save out of Steve Flowers and Jason Nash going close with a clear header on 57 minutes, but it was the Hares who kept Ken Kemato, the Royston keeper, busy and finally the lead was increased on 65 minutes when Sean Sonner went passed three players crossed to Danny Jordan who did not miss. 3 minutes later Craig Totton crossed from the left to Sonner and into the path of Livesey to get his second. On 78 minutes it was 4-0 when a corner from Luke Willis found the head of Gary Williams. The rest of the game was all Harefield with Jordan just putting over the bar and on 89 minutes it was the post that saved Royston when Sonner got through and Kemato making a great save to deny Jordan. The Hares' first clean sheet since the last Royston game in December, but well deserved.

Spartan South Midlands Premier League Game
Oxhey Jets vs Harefield United
Always a competitive game with both sides battling to get the result but it was the Hares who were up from the start with the Oxhey defence being put on the back foot with both Adam Willis and Graig Totton causing problems down each wing. But as per usual the Hares defence let slip and it was Oxhey who took the lead on 11minutes when the ball broke to Tim O'Mara and an easy chance made it 1-0. From this point on the Hraes pressed for the equaliser but the Oxhey defence stood firm. On 25 minutes great interplay between Wills and Sean Sonner saw Victor Asombang put the ball over from close range but 3 minutes later there was Sean Sonner to slot after a great free kick by Craig Totton had come off the bar. On 31 minutes Asombang missed another great chance and the half ended with Hare pressure that resulted in 4 corners in quick succession. Level at half time.
The second half saw the Hares with more conviction and 2 minutes into the half and it was Totton who had the opening chance, only to put it wide. Danny Jordan joined with a great performance but again driving the ball wide. But on the ball was put into the path of Sonner whose shot brought out a great save from the Oxhey keeper but Sonner followed up and drove the ball into the net. 2-1 now and coasting. As Oxhey pushed to get the equaliser their defence was caught on the break with Warren Gladdy leading the charge and slipping the ball to Sonner for his hat-trick on 83 minutes. The drama was not over, sub Michelas Livesey came on the the last few minutes and his first touch was a through ball but another good save by the Oxhey keeper kept the score at 3-1.

Midweek
Harefield went to Welwyn Garden City for a league game in the pouring rain, which made the game a bit of a lottery but though going 1 down after 3 minutes they competed well and the pressure got its reward with two goals in the last 10 minutes. The first header by Sean Sonner and the second at the third attempt by Victor Asombang.

Spartan South Midlands Premier League Game
Harefield United vs Holmer Green
After the entertainment of the Chalfont game back to earth with a result that had to be ground out. The first half saw the Hares dominate for long periods but only coming away with one goal. The pressure was on Holmer from the start with the Hares defence comfortably dealing with all that Holmer could muster. One of the few chances saw Rich Wilson of Holmer shoot wide after creating a bit of space.
It was left to Danny Jordan to have the first clear opening only to see it go wide. Paul Haynes had one cleared off the line. Sean Sonner and Jordan missing other chances but on 19 minutes a corner by Haynes was headed on by Jordan and a simple header for Warren Glady put the Hares in the lead. There followed further chances, a Jordan header over the bar, a Crigi Totton 30 yarders just wide and so on the the rest of the half.
The second half started well for the Hares. They came out and continued the pressure and an early goal was on the cards but it was a rare lapse by the Hares defence when on 53 minutes Craig Henney of Holmer was left unmarked to get the equaliser. However, the Hares upped the pace and the of Holmer were battling hard to some affect, containing much of what the Hares thorugh at them. Jordan also brought out the best in Dave Clark, in goal for Holmer. A fierce shot was met with a great, save low down. The match was settled on 76 minutes when Jordan nicked his second and it was 3-1 to the Hares. Other chances came but no more scoring. Totton with a great cross but Luke Willis ehading over and a shot by Luke going wide. In the end a comfortable win.

Harefield United 4 - 3 Chalfont St Peter
Saturday 13th January 2007
This game was not for the defensive minded fan nor for those who saw the goal keeper as the safe bastion of the defence but it was pure entertainment.
The conditions played a large part with strong winds making the high ball difficult to connect with and two teams who didn't seemed to comprehend that keeping the ball down would make for better football.
The game started with both sides battling for the midfield and neither side taking procession. It was Chalfont who had the first chance on 6 minutes when an unmarked Terrell Lewis shot wide. However, the Hares were playing some good football, when they got their passing game together, but it was not until 21 minutes before the Hare had a clear chance when Luke Willis crossed to Sean Sonner and the header went wide. On 20 minutes a well taken Chalfont free kick was fumbled by Steve Flower in the Hare's goal and Terrell Lewis was first t the ball. This finally spurred the Hares and straight from kick off it after Sonner had stretched the Chalfont defence to find Adam Willis waiting to slot home. The last 15 minutes of the half was all Hares with other chances coming and going. Sonner beating the offside trap only to see the shot go wide. Danny Jordan going for the long range shot but well held by the keeper, Alex Brown heading just over from a corner and Luke Willis having a chance cleared off the line. Half time 1-1.
The second half saw a turnaround with Chalfont attacking form the off and on 46 minutes another spill by Flowers and it as Terrell Lewis again on hand to pick up the mistake. The Hares keeper the momentum going and pushed to get the equaliser but on 67 minutes even worse, the midfield lost the ball and Chalfont punished the Hares with a goal by Barry Brosnan, 3-1 and looking bleak. However, the Hares never gave up and for the last 20 minutes took the game to Chalfont but desperate defending kept the Hares out but there were rewarded on 72 minutes when a Craig Totton free kick hit the ground in front of the Chalfont keeper and slipped under his body then two minute later interplay between Sonner, Danny Buckle (on for Paul Haynes) and it was the shot from Totton that again went underneath the hapless keeper, 3-3. The next 10 minutes saw the Hares defence finally coping with the Chalfont front runners and a defence that again blocking everything the Hares threw at them. But it was Totton who had the last say. Another free kick from outside the area that managed to elude all the players in the area and bounce into the top corner. This game was not for the feint hearted. |

Harefield United 6 - 0 Royston Town
The Hares destroyed Royston in a devastating 10 minute spell.
For the first 20 minutes the Hares dominated the game and it should have been all over. Within 3 minutes Danny Jordan had a one-on-one with the Royston keeper but the keeper saved. Sean Sonner and Danny Buckle had long ranges shots off target but it was the overall team work the showed through. On 23 minutes a penalty for the Hares and up stepped Jordan only to see his shot saved by the keeper but the drama continued the assistant adjudged the goalie move off his line so it was a retake. Again up stepped Jordan and again the keeper saved. It was looking like one of those days when on 45 minutes Jordan made amends with a well taken goal following great passing from the Hare area to the goal.
The second half was again early pressure from the Hares but Royston got back into the game and started to put pressure on the Hares defence. However, Steve Flower in goal was up to the task. Royston's pressure was rewarded with a penalty on 75 minutes when Glady pulled down the opposition forward. However, it was their turn to miss and Flower made a great save. What followed was sheer power. On 80 minutes Danny Buckle made it two, on 81 minutes it was 3, Buckle again then came two great goals. First it was Warren Gladys on 83 minutes with a 25 yard shot giving the keeper no chance and on 85 minutes Paul Haynes went one better with a scorcher. All was not over, up popped Gary Williams on 90 minutes with a well placed header and it was six.

Spartan South Midlands Premier League Game
Harefield United 1 - 1 Edgware Town
This game was never going to be dull. From the off both sides went for the points in this fast, end to end game. Both defences battling hard to contain the lively forwards. Edgware were always threatening on the break with the Hares playing the passing game to penetrate the Edgware defence. In the first 10 minutes the Hares had Edgware pinned back with 6 corners on the trot but the Edgware defence weathered the onslaught. There were some good performances in both defences, with Gary Williams, Joe Cowans and Rob Coldrake taking all the pressure with Rob Smith, Steve Brady and Phil Kane doing the same for Edgware. Chances for the forward were few but it was Stuart Blackburne of Edgware who had one of the few chances on 42 minutes, being left unmarked but Steve Flower was out his goal quickly and the sot hot the side netting. 2 minutes later it was the same play driving through only to see his shot well saved by Flower. At the other end Rob Cold rake header over the bar and after Sean Sonner made a great run down the right only to see his cross being squandered. However, it was Edgware who took the lead when a poorly defended free kick allowed Richard Morton to score on 45 minutes.
The second half started well for the Hares and the pressure on Edgware intensified. The Hares got their passing game together and started to expose the Edgware defence. Craig Totton down the left was having a great game and Sean Sonner the right doing the same. On 49 minutes Luke Willis skewed a chance just wide and at each free kick the Hares looked dangerous with Coldrake heading over the bar and shots being blocked or missing the target. All the pressure was rewarded by substitute Victor Amosbang who can on for Paul Haynes. In the second half is was the Hare forwards who shone, with Danny Buckle leading the ay with his ball control and it was his interplay with Amosbang that resulted in a low cross from Amosbang and an obliging Sean Sonner to rifle it home.
From this point onwards the game got physical with Edgware in unfamiliar territory and hanging on to a point and getting 5 booked and their coach sent off with the Hares picking up 2 bookings. The final act was another Danny Buckle cross to the head of unmarked Adam Willis with goal written all over it but missed the target.
A game the Hares need to win but it was points shared.

Colney Heath 1 - 3 Harefield United
One of the few games on due to the wet weather and the conditions were damp but the pitch was difficult.
The game started with the Hares playing with an attacking formation, no fewer than 5 forwards looking for the win but it was conditions that helped shape the game with both sided having to dig deep to get their game going. However, it was Harefield who made all the running with chances from Victor Asombang, and Danny Buckle being sent wide but it was Danny Jordan playing in an unfamiliar role behind the forwards to hit a low shot from the edge of the box and in off the post. 1-0 and that is how it stayed at half time. The first half had pressure on the Hare's defence but it was contained, except when but Jake Piarratt failed to latch on to a cross and Matt Chalkley did the same for Colney.
The second half was a hard struggle for both sides with neither team coming to terms with the pitch. However on 60 minutes Victor Asombang got the ball in the Colney area and turned to give the Hares a 2 goal lead from an acute angle and get his first for Harefield.
The rest of the game saw the Hares defence absorb the Colney attack until the 77 minute when Matt Halley was tripped to deny the Hares a clean sheet when up stepped Scott Lacy to give Colney hope. This was shot lived when Danny Jordan secured 3 points on 86 minuteswith his second. Not a great game but the result the Hares needed before next week's game against Edgware.

Saturday 18th November 2006
Harefield United 3 - 2 St Margaretsbury
A much better all round performance with the Hares dominating the first half with two goals and eleven corners. From the off the Hares pressed St Margaretsbury and on 8 minutes Sean Sonner danced his way round the defence only to have his shot blocker but at the second attempt he slotted home. On 21 minutes Craig Totton crossed from a free kick to the head of Alex Brown but this brought out a great save by Kris Smithers in goal for St Margaretsbury. It was not all one way St Margaretsbury had their moments and it was Ben Herod and Ben Tobin that kept the Hares defence busiest with Alex Brown having to clear off the line. But good defending kept them out. The first half continued with Danny Jordan hitting the side netting form a free lick, Sonner kept the opposition pressed back and it was rewarded with Sonner doing all the work down the right side and Danny Buckle controlling his cross and putting the Hares 2 up. Smithers in goal kept the score down along with the woodwork,. Totton having a great strike hitting the bar and Jordan had the ball kept out by the post.
The second half started with St Margaretsbury taking control of the game and for the first part of the half the Hares were chasing the ball. Durbin this spell Melvin Thompson scored on 66 minutes and the Hares were suddenly under pressure. The Hares put there three subs on, Victor Asombang, new signing Mark Walters and Paul Haynes for Danny Jordan , Danny Buckle and Tom Lewis.
The game switched and the Hares started to take control but lady luck still had some twists with Asombang being taken out in the penalty area only for the Referee to see things differently. However on 80 minutes St Margaretsbury broke down the right and a slip by Gary Williams let the cross be made and it was Ben Herod with an easy tap in. The last 10 minute had the Hares driving for the winner and a series of corners results in a great cross by Totton and with both Williams and Brown vying for the bal it hit the head of Brown and all was over. With 2 minutes to go the home side contained the visitors.

Spartan South Midlands Premier League Game
Broxbourne Borough 2 - 1 Harefield United
Another game lost to the odd goal, another game of having most of the play but coming away with nothing.
Early pressure, in blustery conditions, with Danny Jordan and Victor looking for the opening. A fast game with Broxbourne closing the Hares down at every opportunity. On 8 minutes Broxbourne had a chance when Robert Tungett had his shot saved by Steve Flower, but on 16 minutes Tungett was left to shot from 25m into the top corner. After that the Hares increased the pressure with Craig Totton going wide, Victor over the bar and he followed up with a great strike that was saved by the Broxbourne keeper. Alex Brown joined in with a header over the bar but at half time the Hares were still one down.
The second half started well for the Hares. They came out and continued the poressure and an early goal.On 47 minutes Totton crossed from the left and Coldrake hammered the ball home. From this point onwards the Hares took control. The Broxbourne keeper threw himself at everything and made numerous saves. Jordan and Victor all having chances but the woodwork denied the Hares three times. Again the Hares fell to a breakaawy that left Danny Ward to score the winner. The Hares made three substitutions, Sean Sonner, Danny Buckle and Gary Williams to keep the pressure on but failed to the breakthrough they deseved.

Holmer Green 3 - 3 Harefield United. 26th September 2006
Not a good defensive performance which had lowly Holmer Green taking the game to the Hares and causing problems. Holmer scored first due to a slip but the Hares responded through a Danny Jordan penalty and Adam Willis but this was cancelled by another Holmer goal. The Hares restored the lead before half time with a goal from Sean Sonner and should have killed off the game with other chances.
The second half saw Holmer come out strong and early pressure and poor clearance saw them equalise. The rest of the game was end to end with the Hare having the most pressure in the last 10 minutes but Holmer held out.

Midweek the Hares played London Colney in the league and lost 1-0 to a late goal though so many chances missed. |

14th October 2006
Game Spartan Premier League
Fixture Harefield United v Tring Athletic .
Result: 2-2 Full Time .
It was a dogged display from the Hares , as they salvaged a much needed point. Tring scored after 5 minutes when Matt Wort lofted a cross come shot that dropped behind the keeper. Then it was all one way traffic, as the reds searched for the equaliser. With the 2 Dannys up front a.k.a Buckle and Jordan. They had a host of chances. With others also striving for a goal. Adam and Luke Willis had theirs. Along with Ben Herring and Craig Totten from set pieces . Despite all this pressure and Tring doubled their advantage. On 50 minutes from a left wing corner , John Perry adjudged to be the scorer. Again a repeat of the 1st half. This time the cracks started to show in the Tring defence. The introduction of substitutes of Sean Sonner and Debutante Murray Williamson. For it was Sonner who was key to opening the floodgates. Smart link up with Buckle and Jordan. With the latter being brought down in the box. After dusting himself down, Jordan buried bottom left corner. Mind you the air was blue at that end of the ground. Just when things were looking good, Adam Willis was sent off for winning the ball. Then again the official was a bit green round the ears. In terms of fairness a blatant forearm smash on Jordan went unpunished. Never mind at least the Hares capped off a splendid fight back. Williamson on 88 minutes, a looping header over the Tring keeper so at least pride was restored .

Result: 1-0 Full Time .
Team , Flower , Eldridge , Lewis , Cowan , Coldrake , A Willis , Gladdy , Sonner , Woolner , Jordan , Haynes .
Subs , Brown , Williams , Buckle , Totten and L.Willis .
The renaissance is over as the home side bagged all 3 points. Leaving it late to score from a corner. Alan Arthur with a free header past Flower in the Hare’s goal (88). Throughout the match it was Harefield that played the better football but neither side looked like scoring . Summer signing Paul Haynes partnered Jordan up front. Sean Sonner was given a wing back role, vacated by Ben Herring’s injury . There were signs of marked improvement. The example shown by Warren Gladdy. From his midfield position, he was probing the back line. Having 3 fine attempts at goal but the intervention of a fine save and 2 well timed tackles. Then there was the performance from Joe Cowan. Another strong defender and does not flinch when making his tackles count. Another name to talk about is Tom Lewis who has waited patiently for his chance. Again the work rate was spot on, but the support was lacking at times. He set the front pair up with glorious chances. None were taken and maybe if 1 had been converted then the confidence would have restored pride. True to form when the chips are down nothing goes your way. Jordan was taken out and no penalty given. Then again it was inside the box. Later it was revealed there was a hijacking. Just like the boys in black, still thats football for you. The loss of scoring is a worrying trend, but once the goals start flowing again. Then this would put a few smiles on faces. The Hares will be back and will be right in the thick of things .During the season all teams suffer loss of form. Maybe it is a sign of what is to come. As you are aware it is a hard slog to the end of the season. So fasten your seat belt and hang on to your hat . It is going to be a bumpy ride.
While the first team were losing the Reserves found a strong Ashford Town side to content with and went down 3-0.

Harefield United 1 - 2 Welwyn Garden City
Another game and another great performance with great football but no points.
It was a very physical game with a Referee struggling to keep control and both sides giving nothing. Yet it was the Hares who kept the pressure on and were rewarded when Danny Jordan latched onto a cross on 30 minutes after a great passing move from defence to forward. The final cross from Sonner left Jordan with a tap in.
As the first half progressed the booking started to follow as the unnecessary yellow cards came out. Is there no common sense left in the game?
It was 1-0 at half time and the Hares were confident. however, yet again at the start of the second half it was the opposition who scored within 2 minutes of the start. The Hares never seem to learn. On 47 minutes Nick Brindley of Welwyn was left to strike a great shot over the head of Flower in the Hares goal. This forced the Hares on to the offensive and as the game heated up so came more yellow cards. Chances coming and going but it was Welwyn that caught the Hares son the break and it was left to Matt Wardle to get the winner on 85 minutes. After this the game there was a melee with both teams getting involved, including the Welwyn management and Brown got sent off yet a stamping by a Welwyn player got just a yellow?
